Stay Socially Connected When Living With Schizophrenia

What You’ll Do

Send a text to a friend or family member as a low-key way to stay in touch. Send a question (“How’s your day going?”), a meme (one that actually made you laugh out loud), or a simple statement (“Thinking of you today”).

How It Helps Schizophrenia

Staying socially connected is good for the quality of your relationships, and it can help improve your mental health while reducing feelings of isolation.

Although certain schizophrenia symptoms — for example, disorganized thinking or feelings of apathy — may make it harder to engage socially, gently pushing yourself to connect in small ways can make a big difference in your social life and how you feel.
